Donald Eugene Johnson, also lovingly known as “Donnie”, 75, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away from a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Donnie was born into the loving home of Howard Eugene Johnson and Madeline Tipton Johnson in 1949.

After finishing his education, Donnie went to work for Caterpillar for some time before joining the United States Navy and serving his country aboard the ammunition ship U.S.S. Butte, during which time he served several tours in the Mediterranean Sea. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Donnie would be employed as a video operator for WJHL for several years before changing careers as a truck driver until his retirement.

He had many hobbies that he enjoyed and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed his time spent with his family most of all. Donnie also had a heart for animals. He loved numerous pets over the years, including his 3 cats presently.

Along with his parents, Donnie is preceded in death by one great-grandson, Logan.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include: his loving wife, Brenda Johnson; one son, Jason Johnson; two daughters, Brittany Johnson and Lori (Jason) Smith; two grandchildren, Jessica and Patrick; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed (Anne) Johnson; a special uncle, Tommy Johnson; a very good friend, Sharon; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the employees of The V.A. Community Living Center for their wonderful care.

A visitation of family and friends is scheduled for 12:30 pm till 1:30 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, following the visitation, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Washington County Animal Shelter in his honor.
