Donald Richard Newell, Sr.

Donald Richard Newell, Sr., 80, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024.

He was born into the loving home of Samuel Howell Newell, Jr and Dora Mildred “Tootsie” Pruner Newell on April 18, 1943, in Washington County, Tennessee.

Donald was a retired engineer from Amerace / Microporous, LLC. He was an avid trophy bass fisherman, who also enjoyed Nascar, Atlanta Braves baseball, and traveling with his wife.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his son, Donald Richard Newell, Jr.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include: his wife of 39 years, Sharon Lea Newell; son, Bob (Debby) Newell; step-children, Daphne (Doug) Berry and Chris (Kari) Hughes; grandchildren, Christy Newell, David (Marah) Newell, and Deme Berry; great-grandson, Bowie Newell; siblings, David (Terri) Newell, Pat (Terry) Campbell, and Larry Newell; and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held to honor Donald. The service will be officiated by Tom Reece.

The family would like to express special appreciation to the Amedisys Hospice nurses, to those serving at Johnson City Fire Station #2, and Jeff and Robyn Phillips for their acts of service and kindness.
