Doris Leonard Carrier, 87, of Jefferson City, TN, formerly of 715 East Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, in Jefferson City, TN, at Chandler House Assisted Living from complications associated with dementia and advanced Alzheimers disease. Mrs. Carrier was a native of Washington County and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Robert R. Leonard, Sr. and Nellie B. Hammett Leonard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan 'Gene' Carrier; two sisters, Violet Loveless and Nellie Brinkley; one brother, Byron Leonard; and one grandson, David Eugene 'Deke' Carrier. Mrs. Carrier was a lifetime member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church in Johnson City. She was retired from Hamilton Bank after working for over 37 years in their teller division. Mrs. Carrier was a 1946 graduate of Science Hill High School. Survivors include one son, Derek Carrier, Dandridge, TN; three grandchildren, Austin Ryan, Ashley Danielle, and Doris Elena 'DeeDee' Carrier, all of Dandridge; two brothers, Robert R. Leonard, Jr. and his wife, Jane, Johnson City, and Dwight 'Greasy' Leonard, Melbourne, FL; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service is scheduled for 12 pm Friday, February 17, 2017, at Monte Vista Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601. Mr. James D. McKinney will officiate. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 11:50 am Friday for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
