Dorothy Denny Allen Cullifer

Mrs. Dorothy Denny Allen Cullifer, 85, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Cullifer was a native of Wilson, North Carolina and had lived in Bethel, North Carolina before moving to Johnson City in 2001. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Sydney Boaz Denny and Bessie Harris Denny. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Allen, Jr. in 1986; her second husband, J. Paul Cullifer in 2002; one sister, Elizabeth Denny Stubbs; and two brothers, James and Frank Denny. Mrs. Cullifer was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Bethel, North Carolina and also attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: one daughter, Sändra Henson and her husband Chuck of Johnson City; one son, Douglas Allen and his wife Mary of Hickory, North Carolina; one brother, Robert Lee Denny of Wilson, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Denny Allen Cullifer will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Dr. Jim Richter will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be: Michael Henson, Phil Belcher, Andrew Darlington, 1st Lt. Andrew Allen, Craig Wanek and Jeff Canipe. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 PM Thursday prior to the service. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Friday in the Bethel Cemetery, Bethel, North Carolina. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Samaritans Purse for Haiti Relief, P. O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607.
