Dorothy Murr Wagner ? Jackson passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Cornerstone Nursing Home. She was born in Johnson City on July 1, 1926. She lived in Washington, D.C. and Rockville, MD for 50 years before returning to Johnson City in 2006. Dorothy retired from the National Geographic society after working for 45 years, and only missed two days. She began her career as a file clerk in 1950 and retired in 1994. She was the first female assistant treasurer with the company. She lived a full life. After her retirement, she worked as a volunteer at Shady Grove Hospital in Gaithersburg, MD and The Rockville Senior Citizens in Rockville, MD. She was a member of Viers Mill Baptist Church in Silver Springs, MD. She became a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church, and the Good News Sunday School class when she returned to Tennessee. Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents, Walter and Daisy Murr; four brothers, George, Walt, Robert, and John Murr; two sisters, Sabra and Brenda Murr; her first husband, Robert Bruce Wagner; her second husband, Earl Jackson; and one infant son. Survivors include: four sisters, Joyce and her husband John Sawyer, of Johnson City, Louise and her husband Louis Burzynski, of Limestone, Edna and her husband Lester Baldwin, of Pace, FL, and Linda and her husband John Miller, of Jonesborough; and three brothers, Glenn and his wife Virginia Murr, of Jonesborough, Michael and his wife Barbara Murr, of Jonesborough, and Ted Murr, of Johnson City. Friends and family of Dorothy M. Wagner-Jackson are asked to meet at Monte Vista Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel Saturday, May 21, 2016 for a 2:00 PM committal service with Pastor Jeff Alford officiating. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Unaka Avenue Baptist Church, 1213 E. Unaka Ave., Johnson City, or to your favorite charity.
