Dorothy Meade Reynolds, age 86, entered into rest on Monday, May 26, 2008 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, serving as an airline stewardess and a link instructor, simulating flight training of pilots on ground. In 1946 she was honored as Flight Traffic Pin-Up of the week for the Pacific Division. She was a charter member of the Womens War Memorial in Washington, D.C. Prior to entering the Air Force, Mrs. Reynolds worked as a welder at Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles, also as an usherette for Warner Brothers Studio. Dorothy was born in Wilder, Virginia on January 1, 1922,moving to West Virginia at an early age. In 1940 she graduated from Gary High School in Gary, WV. After leaving the service she received a degree as medical technologist from Alfred University, Alfred, NY. She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Alfred, NY where she resided for thirty-seven years with her husband, Lester Eugene Reynolds, until his death in 1991, moving to Castlewood, VA in 1992 to be near her family. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by: her parents, Thomas and Myrtle Puckett Meade; a brother, Norman Meade; a sister, Juanita 'Nita'? Billings. Survivors include: a sister, Clara Johnson of Castlewood, VA; a brother, Gerald Meade of Mountain City, TN; several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Darlyn Gerber; special friends, Glenna Greenwell, Clara and Geraldine Billings; her faithful volunteer, Roena Bowers. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the caring and supportive staff and volunteers at the V.A. Nursing Home. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to the charity of your choice. The graveside service for Dorothy Meade Reynolds will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday, May 29, 2008 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Chaplain Jeremiah Richards will officiate. The VFW Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard of Kingsport will accord military honors. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 12:15 PM Thursday to go in procession.
