Mr. Douglas “DJ” Hanneken, 52, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
Douglas was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Johnson City, TN from Winchester, MA as a teenager. He resided in Johnson City most of his adult life.
Douglas graduated from Science Hill High School in 1985. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., honorably serving his country from 1986-1991. Douglas was a Gulf War Veteran, deployed for Desert Shield and served in combat operations during Desert Storm.
Douglas graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree concentrating in Marketing. Douglas was inducted into and an active member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society as a result of his commitment to academic excellence.
Douglas was preceded in death by his father, James H. Hanneken, Sr., of St. Clair, Missouri.
Survivors include: one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hanneken, of Johnson City; father and mother, Dr. James A. and Louise Ford, of Johnson City; siblings, Wendy Ford, of Wisconsin, Suellen Crossley, of Massachusetts, Ken Ford and his wife Lili, of Massachusetts, Dr. Daniel Hanneken, of Rhode Island, Steve Ford, of Arizona, Don Hanneken and special friend Lisa Mulverhill, of Missouri, Lisa Ford and fiancé John Fant, of Massachusetts, Mary Ann Jaster and husband Steve Jaster, of Missouri, Christina “Tina” Quercia, of New Hampshire, and James “Chip” Hanneken, and wife Leslie Hanneken, of Jonesborough; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 am Monday, June 24, 2019, at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:20 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Douglas to: James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services (135) PO Box 4000, Mountain Home, TN 37684.
