Doyle Lee Hurdt

Doyle Lee Hurdt, 74, of 1406 Squibb Drive, Johnson City, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City, son of the late James A. and Ruth Simmons Hurdt. Doyle was a former appliance salesman for Sears where he worked for 37 years and was currently a real estate agent for Remax/Checkmate. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and attended the Grace Free Will Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gideons International. Doyle was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Hurt, Sr. and a sister, Mildred Giles. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Collins Hurdt of the home and several special nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at the Grace Free Will Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Curtis Hurt and David Foster. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Military honors are to be accorded by the Kingsport VFW #3382 and the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers will be: Jim Branch, Steve Head, Jim Keene, Bud Blankenship, Roy Brown and Randy Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be: nephews, Bobby Giles, Jerry Couch, Bill Jackson, Ron Yelton, Mike Slemp and Joe Keller. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the Gideons International, Johnson City South Camp, P.O.Box 372, Mt. Home, TN 37684.
