E. C. Sellars, 84, of 1615 Crystal Springs Drive, Johnson City passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Sellars was a native of Erwin, Tennessee and had lived in Johnson City since 1963. He was a son of the late John Henon and Winnie Inez Robbins Sellars. Mr. Sellars was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and was assigned to the troop carrier USS Leon serving in the Pacific. After returning from his military service, he went to work for Southern Potteries in Erwin and worked his way up to Assistant Sales Manager. He later worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance and became Assistant Manager. Mr. Sellars enjoyed playing golf very much. He was an active member of the Central Baptist Church where he was a member of the William Rigell Sunday School Class, the Chancel Choir and the Seniors 'Joy'? Choir. Mr. Sellars also sang with GospelShop Barber Shop Quartet. He is preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Onell Anders; and two brothers, Dean Sellars and Manning Sellars. Survivors include: his wife of sixty-one years, Louise Higgins Sellars of the home; two sons, Douglas K. Sellars and Perry E. Sellars, both of Johnson City; two sisters, Edith Lawson of Gray and Barbara Davis of Erwin; two brothers, Tom Sellars of Erwin and Wayne Sellars of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for E. C. Sellars will be conducted at 1 PM Friday, January 2, 2008 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Ron Murray will officiate. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin. Active pallbearers will be Tyrell Anders, Mark Sellars, Eddie Sellars, Bob Frazier, Aldon Speer, and Harry Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Markland, Fred Whitson, Bud Mount, Dorman Stout, Henry Triplett, and the members of the William Rigell Sunday School Class at Central Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 11 AM to 1 PM Friday, prior to the service. The family request that memorials be sent to the charity of your choice.
