Edith E. Shelton, 81, of Johnson City, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her home. She was a native of Avery County, NC and daughter of the late Floyd Hicks and Sadie White Hicks. Edith lived in Johnson City for over 60 years. Edith worked for the Johnson City School District and attended Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by: her husband, Roy Shelton; son, Jimmy Lee Shelton; four brothers, Fred Hicks, Frank Hicks, Clay Hicks, and Carl Hicks; and two sisters, Juanita Hicks and Minnie Belle Blankenship. She is survived by: one brother, Gene Hicks, and his wife Dortha, of Jonesborough; one sister, Shirley Tyree, and her husband Richard, of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Misty Ann Shelton; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. David McMillan, Nurse Practitioner Kim Pratt, and Amedisys Hospice for their care and support. The family of Mrs. Edith Shelton will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Morris-Baker. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Reverend Bill Brown will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Tommy Blankenship, Joseph Tallman, Kenny Bradley, Eric Bradley, Steven Casey, and Kody Casey. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
