Edna Dockery Haney of Charlottesville, VA, formerly of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Edna was the daughter of Lattie and Geneva Caldwell Dockery. She was a member of First Church of God, Johnson City. Edna worked for many years in the city school system of Asheville, N.C. Edna enjoyed music, flowers, nature, writing poetry and spending time with family and friends. Edna loved people and they loved her. She listened to others with her heart, and responded to others needs and concerns with kindness, compassion, and sincerity. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and was so much fun to be with. She was a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her family will miss her but her presence will remain in our hearts forever. Ednas favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lattie Dockery Jr., her husband of 43 years, James Furman Haney, and her best friend of fifty years, Mary Morgan. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Haney and Rich Shelley of Charlottesville, Va., and her grandson, Adam Shelley, also of Charlottesville. Also surviving are her three brothers Don Dockery and his wife Charlotte of Limestone, Conley Dockery and his wife Pauline of Jonesborough, and Bob Dockery of Kingsport; her four sisters Verlie Williams, CL Trentham and her husband Graden, Marie Miller and her husband Herb of Johnson City and Zollie Berry of Jonesborough. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins that were very special to her. The funeral service for Edna Dockery Haney will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dan Stansberry will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Thursday prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Rich Shelley, Adam Shelley, Mike Williams, Ed Dockery, Jerry Berry, Stephen Dockery, and Brent Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Trentham, Lattie Dockery, Ivan Dockery, Gary Dockery, Ray Dockery and David Dockery. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the exceptional staff in the Palliative Care Unit at UVA Medical Center who so lovingly cared for her and her family during the last two weeks of her life.
