Edna Kate Jones

Edna Jones, 94, Piney Flats, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center. Edna was born on August 30, 1923 in Johnson City to the late George Reece and Katie Lee Smith Mathes. Edna always loved to read and spend time with her family and friends. She was a member for 60 years at New Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she was the 2nd female elder. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by: her husband, James Lewis Jones; three sisters, Naomi Mathes Stewart, Georgia Lee Mathes and Mildred Mathes Stewart; and one brother, Jack Mathes. Survivors include: two sons, Richard L. Jones and his wife Eva and Jerry W. Jones; one sister, Joan (Jo-ann) Mathes; three grandchildren, Kimberly Jones Hall and husband Clifford, James Richard (Opie) Jones and wife Shannon and Christopher Owen Lewis Jones and wife Trisha; seven great grandchildren, Clinton Thomas Hall and wife Sarah, Kaleigh Ann Hall Green and husband Seth, Aiden Jones, Nolan Jones, Brianna, Jeremiah and Emily; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Edna Jones will receive friends from 11 AM until 12 PM Saturday, July 21, 2018, at New Bethel Presbyterian Church. The funeral will follow at 12 PM with Rev. Eric Spoon officiating. Pallbearers include: Matt Church, Dwight King, Larry Smith, Dickie Torbett, Jon White and Jim Wright. A committal service will follow at the church cemetery at 1 PM.
