Edward L. Essick, 71, 909 Millercrest Drive, Johnson City went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 2, 2006, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Essick was a native of Ware, Iowa, and had lived in Johnson City for the past fifty years. He was a son of Beulah Allee Essick of Tampa, FL and the late Wayne Essick. Mr. Essick was Owner and President of Edco Manufacturing Co. The most important thing in life to Mr. Essick was the love for his God and his church. He was a Founding Board Member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and was an Elder and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He had served on the Board of Trustees at King College for ten years. He was a former Chairman of the Board of Mission Safety International where he traveled on several foreign field trips to assist with mission aviation. Mr. Essick was preceded in death by his father and one daughter Susan McCollum Essick. Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Thomas Essick of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Edward and Susan Essick of Houston, TX, and Theodore Forest and Vicki Essick of Bristol, TN; one daughter, Shannon McCollum Essick of Johnson City; one brother, Martin Essick of Columbia, SC; eight grandchildren, Chad Essick, Tommy Essick, Chris Hill, Lauren Essick, Lauren Hill, Parker Essick, David Hill and Jennifer Hill. A memorial service for Edward L. Essick will be conducted at 4 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2006, in the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Dr. James Richter will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the members of Missions Safety International. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 2 to 4 PM Wednesday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Mission Safety International.
