Edward Lavone Torbett

Mr. Edward L. Torbett, 76, of Piney Flats, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Torbett was a native and lifelong resident of Piney Flats. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Esther Humphreys Torbett. Mr. Torbett was the owner of the E. L. Torbett Company. He had also served in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Torbett was a member of the Piney Flats United Methodist Church. Survivors include; his wife of fifty years, Sara Saylor Torbett; two sons, Brad Torbett and his wife, Ann and Bryan Torbett all of Piney Flats; one daughter, Kara Torbett Politz and her husband Tony of Jonesborough; one sister, Hassie Torbett Herlinger and her husband Don of Torrence, CA; six grandchildren, Tyler, Amy Jo, Courtney, Rayne, Lydia and Eli. The funeral services for Mr. Edward L. Torbett will be conducted from the Piney Flats United Methodist Church at 8:00 pm Thursday, June 9, 2011. Rev. Joseph Manis and Rev. Mack Houston will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Friday in the Shell Cemetery, Piney Flats. Active pallbearers will be Bill Carr, Bill Hodge, John McKamey, Keith Switzer, Jim Hager, Ellis Crews, Alan King and Earl Gouge. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM Friday. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 PM Thursday at Piney Flats United Methodist Church prior to the service.
