Dr. Elaine Riggs Morrell Martin, 70, of Johnson City went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center with her family by her side. Heavenly sunshine, heavenly sunshine, Flooding my soul with glory divine, Hallelujah, I am rejoicing, Singing His praises, Jesus is mine. Elaine was a native of Carter County, where she grew up before relocating to Johnson City after completing her Doctorate in Pharmacology at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. Before retiring, Elaine was a Pharmacist at the VA for twenty-three years, as well as Rite Aid for fifteen years. She truly loved her colleagues, co-workers and customers, as they were each like family to her. She will always be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed every minute spent with her family and grandchildren. In addition, she loved her friends, work and being at the beach. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Grayton Blevins Riggs, her sister, Annette Riggs Bowers and a husband Bob Morrell. Survivors include her husband, Charles Martin; brother, Warren Riggs and wife, Pat Lawson Riggs, Kingsport; children, Dean Martin and wife, Kelly Nottingham Martin, Middletown, CT, and Julie Martin Pelphrey and husband, Jerry Pelphrey, Johnson City; grandchildren, Challie Elizabeth Pelphrey, Lillie Elaine 'Laney' Pelphrey, Kalen Reed Martin, and Mackenzie Grace Martin; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was a long time member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton and attended Piney Flats United Methodist Church, Piney Flats. Friends will be received Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the South Chapel of Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 PM with Bob Robinson and Mack Houston officiating. Burial will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at Edgefield United Methodist Church, Piney Flats. Family and friends will meet at Morris-Baker by 1:30PM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery for committal services. Active Pallbearers are Allen Martin, Ronnie Martin, Wayne Jones, Eddie Smith, Scott Bowers, and Dana Riggs. Honorary pallbearers are Alan LeForce, Dean Torbett, Joe Toth, Daruis Hensley, Robert King, Wayne Andes, Bill Bailey, John Warren, Glen Malone, Brad Teague, Butch Carpenter, Lewis 'Jake' Cross, Dr. Walter R. Beaver, Warren Uldeson, Jerry Uldeson, and Gary Speer. Donations may be made in her memory to the Piney Flats United Methodist Church, 225 Methodist Church Street, Piney Flats, TN 37686. Online condolences to the Martin family may be made via morrisbaker.com. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff of MSHA and affiliates for the care they provided. Ill walk with God from this day on. His helping hand Ill lean upon. This is my prayer, my humble plea, May the Lord be ever with me. There is no death, tho eyes grow dim. There is no fear when Im near to Him. Ill lean on Him forever. And Hell forsake me never. He will not fail me. As long as my faith is strong, Whatever road I may walk along. Ill walk with God, Ill take His hand. Ill talk with God, Hell understand. Ill pray to Him, each day to Him And Hell hear the words that I say. His hand will guide my throne and rod And Ill never walk alone While I walk with God. (Words by Paul Francis Webster) .
