Elizabeth Ann Hodges

Elizabeth “Tibby” Ann McMackin Hodges, age 94, of Johnson City, Tennessee, died Sunday, March 8, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Tibby was born on October 31, 1925 in Johnson City to Harry W. McMackin and Josephine Hilborn McMackin. She graduated from Science Hill High School.

Tibby was a lifelong active member, and the oldest living member, of Central Baptist Church. She volunteered in many capacities at the church including in the Women’s Missionary Union and teaching Sunday school. She was a member of the Esther Sunday School Class. Tibby was involved in many civic organizations including the Washington County Republican Party, the East Tennessee Republican Club, and the Monday Club. In addition to being a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Tibby was President and CEO of Central Paper and Supply Company.

In addition to her parents, Tibby is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert L. Hodges, Jr; and three brothers.

Those left to cherish Tibby’s memory include her children, Robert (and wife, Nancy) L. Hodges III, Betsy (and husband, Chuck) Gordon, and Joseph W. Hodges; grandchildren, Robert (and wife, Alex) L. Hodges IV, Charles (and wife, Nannette) E. Gordon, Elizabeth (and husband, Joe) G. Humston; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Molly, and Emma Rose; brother, James (and wife, Frances) L. McMackin; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Brenda Simpson.

Tibby’s family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Central Baptist Church (300 N. Roan St., Johnson City, TN 37601). A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 1:30 pm. A committal service will follow, at 3:00 pm, at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will include: Jerry Harkleroad, Matt McGahey, Bill Breeding, Robert L. Hodges IV, Charles E. Gordon, and Joseph M. Humston. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Brandt and the employees of Central Paper and Supply Company.

Memorial contributions are preferred to ETSU Football (1081 John Robert Bell Drive, Johnson City, TN 37614) in honor of Elizabeth Hodges or Central Baptist Church.
