Mrs. Elizabeth Faith Wood Ashworth, 87, Johnson City, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Johnson City. Elizabeth was born in Sussex, England and was a daughter of the late George Austen Wood and Hetty Ivy Wood Bamblett. She was the last surviving of 11 children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Howard Ashworth, in 1989; son, John Ashworth; son-in-law, James L. Perkins; five sisters; and five brothers. Elizabeth came to the US in 1946 as a war bride and made her home in Johnson City. She was still an active member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association for WWII war brides. She had been a member of St. Marys Catholic Church since her arrival in the US and had served on several committees for the church and CCW. Elizabeth worked at Dossers Department Store for many years and taught knitting lessons. She still enjoyed knitting baby hats to donate to the newborns at the area hospitals. Elizabeth volunteered at the Johnson City Medical Center gift shop for numerous years, until her recent retirement from that position. She also volunteered at Wellington House. Survivors include: one daughter, Sandra Perkins, Johnson City; two grandsons, Michael John Ashworth, Novi, MI and Hank Perkins, Winston-Salem, NC; one granddaughter, Kristin Marie Ashworth, Novi, MI; one great grandson, Donovan Ashworth; brother-in-law, Ivan Ashworth and his wife Mary Ann, Townsend; brother-in-law, Billy J. Lewis, Lawrenceville, GA; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mrs. Elizabeth F. Ashworth will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Marys Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday in St. Marys under the direction of Father Peter Iorio. The committal service will follow Saturday in Monte Vista Memorial Park.
