Elizabeth Jean Lowe Liz Munsey

June 16, 1943 — January 5, 2013

Mrs. Elizabeth Jean 'Liz' Lowe Munsey, age 69, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013. Mrs. Munsey was a native of Highland Park, Michigan. She lived in Johnson City in her earlier years and moved to Pennington Gap, Virginia, for twenty-seven years before returning to Johnson City in 1989. She was the daughter of the late Ned Tilley Lowe and Sarah Lochery Lowe. In addition to her parents, two sisters, Sandra F. Bolton and Agnes Lowe Banks; one brother, Ronald Kemp Lowe, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband Donald 'Don'? Munsey; two sons, Donald Richard 'Ric' Munsey Jr., and his wife Stephanie; and Stephen Ross Munsey and his wife Renee; one daughter, Sandra Marie Munsey; one brother, Felix C. Lowe and his wife Susan; two grandchildren, Evan Ross Munsey and Mason Fisher Munsey. Liz was a wonderful, loving mother, being greatly involved in her childrens activities in Pennington Gap, including the band boosters, athletic boosters and other volunteer groups. She was the coach of the Little League Angels girls softball team and of the girls softball All-Star team. Liz had an infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor. She loved bird watching, picnicking and her pets, and most of all her two grandchildren. She spent most of her professional career as a paralegal, fighting for the rights of those who needed a voice and support in the areas of disability, domestic violence and elder services. She graduated from Happy Valley High School, attended ETSU and graduated from Milligan College. The funeral service for Mrs. Elizabeth Jean 'Liz'? Lowe Munsey will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2013, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Father Michael Cummins will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Wednesday, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter, 525 Sells Avenue, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
