Elouise Jenkins Gilbert, 85, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 in Appalachian Christian Village. Elouise was born in Tupelo, MS but lived most of her life in the Johnson City and Kingsport area. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Jenkins and Norah Flowers Cuison. Elouise graduated from high school in Paducah, KY. She worked as the manager of S&H Green Stamp Store in Kingsport and then in Johnson City. She was the owner of Roan Street Coin Laundry in Johnson City before retiring in 1994. Elouise was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. She was a former member and past president of the Kingsport chapter of the Business and Profession Womens Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: two sons, Jerome 'Jere'? and Roger Allen Gilbert; and one sister, Viola Newell. Survivors include: two daughters, Theresa Elrod (Todd) and Mary Anne Gilbert (Tish Smitherman), all of Johnson City; three sons, Phillip Greenwell (Linda), of Lexington, KY, William Gilbert, of Johnson City; and James Matthew Gilbert, of Lafollette; one brother, Raymond Jenkins, of Ringgold, GA; six grandchildren, P. J. Greenwell, of Paducah, KY, William Gilbert, III, of Pennsylvania, Renee Hilbert, of Jonesborough, and Philip, Kristin, and Cale Gilbert, of Johnson City, whom she raised; three nieces and nephews, Carla Stamey, Amberlee Cantrell, and Ray Jenkins; and ten great grandchildren. The Gilbert family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Appalachian Christian Village for their loving care. A committal service is scheduled for 2 pm Sunday, October 12, 2014 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Rev. Bergithe Flom will officiate. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Guests are requested to meet at Monte Vista by 2 pm Sunday for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Coalition for Kids, 2308 Watauga Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
