Emory was called home to heaven to be with His Lord on July 4, 2014. He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on November 26, 2012. From his ten-week early arrival, Emory was constantly beating the odds and remained the happiest child we have ever known. His smile could melt your heart, and his laugh could brighten the darkest day. He was a wonderful miracle who lived up to his name, which meant 'to be brave'?. Emory embraced life with an attitude that was infectious. Everyone who met him felt his joy. Emory and his family attended Grace Fellowship Church. Emory was greeted in heaven by Dr. C. E. Goulding, Jr., Melba Goulding, and Rev. Sherwood Durkee, his great grandparents. He will be sorely missed by: his mother, Amelia Durkee; grandparents, Mark and Karen Durkee; uncle, Cory Gulson; aunt, KJ Gulson (Durkee); cousin, Avery Gulson; and great grandmother Joyce Durkee. He will also be missed by his extended family who love him very much. The family requests that anyone wishing to honor Emory by a donation consider Niswonger Childrens Hospital, 400 N. State of Franklin Road, Johnson City, TN 37604 or Shriners Childrens Hospital, PO Box 5548, Kingsport, TN 37663, both of which made a tremendous difference in his life. The family of Emory Tate Durkee will receive friends from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM Monday, July 7, 2014, in the St. Johns Episcopal Church, 500 N. Roan Street, Johnson City TN 37601. A memorial service will follow with Dr. Wayne White officiating.
