Ernest Wilber Erwin, Jr., 85, of Johnson City went to be with his Savior on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a native of Knoxville, son of the late Ernest, Sr. and Sallie Petit Erwin. Ernest spent most of his life in Washington County. He was a longtime member of the Skyline Heights Baptist Church where he was active in many activities, bus driver and mechanic, Sunday School teacher and was on the House and Grounds Committee. Ernest was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U. S. Army in both Germany and France. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Franklin M. Erwin. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Ada Mueller Erwin of the home, a son, Christopher David (Jill) Erwin of Myrtle Beach, SC; four daughters, Vikki (Martin) Kromer of Austria, Barbara (Thomas) Dier of Greeneville, Debbie (Ron) Brisson of Johnson City and Julie (Alan) Pickle of Chuckey; a sister Erma Toth of Jonesborough; a sister-in-law June Erwin of Jonesborough; a brother-in-law Leo Mueller of Germany; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 5 nieces and 1 nephew. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 5:00pm in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Ken Gaskin and Rev. Don Page. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm until time of service at 5:00pm. A committal service will be conducted on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The Boone Dam VFW will accord military honors. Active pallbearers will be the men of his Sunday School Class. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 1:30pm.
