Ernie L. ?Popie' Collins, 72, of Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Ernie was a native of Trinidad, Colorado. He was a son of the late Henry and Lou McPherson Collins. Ernie very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who referred to him as ?Popie'. He loved his family the most of all, but he also enjoyed a good joke, working on a project or music because ?he was outstanding in his field.' Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Pam Collins; three children, Deana Morganstern and her husband Matthew, Tonya Langenbrunner and her husband John, and Dange Collins; four grandchildren, Victoria King, Ashley Adams, Austin Powell, and Dawson Morganstern; one great granddaughter, Olivia Woods; three sisters, Nancy Elrod, Cookie Tomlinson, and Shirley Valencia; two brothers, Danny and Michael Collins; several nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Robert Earl Harris. The family of Ernie L. Collins will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm Wednesday in the chapel. A committal service is scheduled for 10 am Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 am Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter, 3411 N. Roan St., Johnson City, TN 37601.
