Eugene Allen Chapman, 72, of Piney Flats, passed away following an extended illness on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Born in Bristol, Virginia, in 1948, Eugene was a son of the late Gene Clyde Chapman and Virginia Helen Worley Chapman.
Growing up, Eugene worked on the family farm tending the tobacco fields with his father and brothers. As an adult, he made a career in woodworking, and was a longtime employee of Gordon’s Furniture.
He loved any sport, often getting loud at the television when he was watching. He liked playing and watching baseball, catching a Vols game, and watching Bill Elliott race. He was a youth leader at Edgefield UMC when he was in better health, and he also enjoyed spending time coaching tee ball.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by special friend, Sam Elliott.
Eugene loved his family and will be missed dearly by: his wife of 32 years, Melissa Jenkins Chapman; children, Cheryl Chapman (Kevin Melita), and Michele Keever (Chase) of Charlotte, NC; siblings, Rome Chapman (Dolores), Ronnie Chapman, Donnie Chapman (Becky), and Carolyn Cox (Bill); grandchildren, Kaleb Hazelwood, Madison Hazelwood, and Lance Larimer who is currently at Fort Campbell; great-grandchild, Zander Hazelwood; special aunt, Margaret Dolan (Bill); sisters-in-law, Diana Mashburn (John), Debbie Donaldson (Jim); his special baby, Chloe; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A committal service will be held for Eugene Chapman at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 10, 2020, at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pastor Richard Long will officiate. Friends and family are asked to gather at the graveside by 10:50 AM.
