Eva Pauline Ragan

Mrs. Eva Pauline Ragan, age 87, of Johnson City, TN passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Mrs. Ragan was an Iowa native and a Colorado semi-native, but had lived in Johnson City since 2002. Pauline was the daughter of the late William Henry and Naomi DeMoss Sonnenburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon L. 'Bud'? Ragan; a son, Michael Harold Ragan; a grandson, Alex Mitchell Ragan; a great-grandson Ethan Robert Rodenberg; and two brothers, George Sonnenburg and William Sonnenburg, Jr. Survivors include three daughters: Kathleen Gayle Hoagland (Cyrus), Churchville, PA; Lou Ann Ragan, Ulysses, KS; Paula Moody (Shane), Johnson City, TN; a son, Paul William Ragan (Cindy), Woodland Park, CO. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, she was 'Grandma'? to 14 beloved grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and a large extended family that includes many cherished in-laws. Pauline was born on June 22, 1926 in Dallas, IA and was raised in Alpha, IL. She graduated from Alpha High School in 1943 and also attended business college. As a young woman, she worked as an office manager at Dohrn Transfer where she met her future husband, 'Bud'? Ragan. Pauline and Bud were married on August 24, 1947, and lived in the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois. In 1971, Bud and Pauline moved from Davenport, IA to Coaldale, CO where they spent 20 wonderful years in the shadow of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountain range along the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1976, Pauline opened the Twin Peaks Beauty Salon in Howard, CO where she served the community as a hairdresser for eleven years. In 1991, Bud and Pauline moved to Canon City. In 2002, she relocated to Johnson City, TN where she lived with her daughters family and was a loving caregiver to her special-needs granddaughter, Becca, for many years. Pauline was a Christian and her great desire in life was for others to know her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Pauline was an active church member in the communities where she lived. In Canon City, she was a member of the Assembly of God. She was very committed to right-to-life issues, and volunteered at a crisis pregnancy center in Canon City. In Johnson City, Pauline attended Cornerstone Church, where she was a member of the Keen-Agers (Senior Saints) group and Helping Hands Ministry. She also volunteered at the Melting Pot, serving meals to disadvantaged community members. Pauline never met a stranger. She enjoyed her family and family gatherings. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, gardening, and crossword puzzles. Pauline loved football, and was an avid Denver Broncos fan. Somehow, she found room in her heart to also cheer for the UT Vols and Tennessee Titans after moving to Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Holt Family Funeral Home, 806 Macon Ave., Canon City, CO. Funeral services for Mrs. Ragan will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2012 at Mountain View Community Church, 200 Justice Center Rd., Canon City, CO, with the Rev. Jeff Guinn officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted immediately following the funeral at Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City. Pallbearers are Paul Ragan, Daniel Ragan, Cy Hoagland III, Eldon Ragan, Justin Ragan, Nate Schultz, Cy Hoagland, Jr., and Shane Moody. In addition to the Colorado services, a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 120 Cornerstone Dr., Johnson City, TN, with Dr. Barry Burns officiating.
