Evelyn Givens Hancock, 93, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Washington County, a daughter of the late Guy and Thula Young Givens. Evelyn married the love of her life, Eugene Hancock, on July 30th, 1945. Together they would go on to own and operate a Greyhound Bus Station and restaurant in Beckley, West Virginia for over 41 years. After they retired, the two of them moved to Johnson City, where they stayed for the remainder of their lives. She had been a member of East Pine Grove Park United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by: her husband of 71 years, Eugene Hancock; daughter, Teresa Hancock Leonard; brother, Joe Givens; and sister, Francis Higgs. Survivors include: close son-in-law, Paul Leonard; grandson, Scott Leonard; greatgrandchildren, Evie Kate Leonard and Benjamin Eldreth; special cousin, Jeep Dye; and beloved friends, Kathy Williams and Edith Crumley. The family of Evelyn Hancock will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 25, 2019, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM, conducted by Reverend Paul Longmire. A committal service will be held for Evelyn at 1:45 PM on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Friends and family are asked to gather at the cemetery gates by 1:35 PM to go in procession to the gravesite.
