Evelyn L. Austin Williams, 92, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at Christian Care Center of Johnson City on Saturday, April 9, 2016, after a battle with Alzheimer?s disease. She was born on November 4, 1923 to the late Allen Howard and Mary Maude Jenkins Austin. She was a lifelong resident of Johnson City, TN. Evelyn graduated from Science Hill High School in the class of 1942. After working briefly at Liberty and Majestic Theaters, Kress, and Peoples Drug, she accepted employment at Johnson City Housing Authority. She retired from JCHA after more than 39 years. Evelyn was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, later moving her membership to First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City. Her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo, going on cruises, and visiting casinos. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilburn, Oran, and C.A. ?Bo' Austin; and her first husband, Lincoln Johnson. She leaves behind to mourn her passing her loving husband of 41 years, R. Vincent Williams; one sister, Dean Holland of Cleveland, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm under the direction of Brother Brandon Broyles. A committal service is scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers are: Robert Sliger, Dr. Phil Walters, Dr. Jim Wood, Fred Brandt, Bill Stewart, Charles ?Willy' Williams, Paul Adams, Clifford Andes, Conn Nave, Kenny Swift, and Jeff Holland. Family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker at 9:30 am Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Jericho Temple, 1100 Jericho Dr., Kingsport, TN 37663, or the charity of your choice.
