Evelyn Virginia Woody

Evelyn Virginia Clark Woody, 90, of Johnson City died Friday, December 22, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living. She was a native of Johnson City, daughter of the late Russell Boone and Myrtle Leonard Clark. Evelyn was a retired homemaker and talented vocalist and pianist who often performed at weddings. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining guests and was known for her delicious pies. Evelyn was a devout Christian and long- time member at Boones Creek Christian Church. While living in North Carolina she attended Little River Baptist Church and was an active member of the Sunshine Sunday School class and participated in the card ministry for many years. Evelyn enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She delighted in having fun with all of her family. Her childrens cousins and friends were always welcome in her home. While her children were in elementary and junior high school she was active in PTA serving as President, Program Chairman and other leadership positions. She was involved in local and state politics serving as Vice President of the Transylvania County Democratic Party for a period of time. In addition to her parents, her husband Nathaniel Byrk Woody and sisters, Florence Sue Hobbs and Lois Clark Bowman preceded her in death. Survivors include her three daughters and their husbands, Sheri and Rick Little, Dawn and Barry Bingham, Deborah and David Mackey; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Bingham Gebhardt and David, Nathaniel Clark Mackey and Amanda ; two great grandchildren, Brock Garrett Gebhardt and Sawyer Byrk Mackey; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 12:00 pm until 1:45 pm at the Boones Creek Christian Church. A funeral service is to follow at 2:00 pm under the direction of Mr. Dick Morris, Associate Minister. A committal service is scheduled for 3:00 pm in the Boones Creek Christian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Rick Little, David Mackey, Barry Bingham, Lynn Hobbs, Ryan Broyles, Clark Mackey, David Gebhardt and Edward Bowman.
