Mrs. Evelyn Weikel Williams, 92, of Johnson City, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, in the NHC HealthCare. Mrs. Williams was born in Christiansburg, Virginia. She had lived in Johnson City since 1954. She was the daughter of the late Millard Conway and Martha Catherine Guthrie Weikel. Mrs. Williams retired from the Clinchfield Railroad as executive secretary after many years of service. She also was employed as executive secretary at Inter Mountain Telephone Company. She was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. She was a member of the Monday Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Johnson City and active in the Browns Mill Villa Association. Mrs. Williams never met a stranger. Her friends were many and varied. She was a friend of everyone she ever met. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Leon Williams. Survivors include: one son, Leon Williams; one sister, Margaret Weikel Hall and her husband William; one brother, Jackson Preston Weikel and his wife Nancy; three grandchildren, Joseph Leon Williams, George Tipton Williams, and Wade Hampton Williams; three great grandchildren, Regan Mairead Williams, Berkeley Williams, and Jarrett Spencer Williams; two nieces, Elizabeth Weikel Bauman and her husband Briggs, and Virginia Weikel Kent and her husband Chris; one nephew, Walter Preston Weikel and his wife Lisa. A memorial service for Mrs. Evelyn Weikel Williams will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the First United Methodist Church, Johnson City. Rev. Jane Taylor and Rev. Garland Thayer will officiate. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
