Evelyn Bell Whaley Lamons, 84, of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, daughter of the late JP and Mattie Stout.
Evelyn was a longtime member of the Princeton Freewill Baptist Church.
She was a great cook, known famously for her perfect fried chicken, turkey dressing, and especially her sweet tea. She was also known for being ‘The Pretzel Lady’, working at Auntie Anne’s for years giving out smiles and samples. In addition to work, she spent a large portion of her time and good attitude to volunteer in various children’s organizations and childcare programs. She loved to care for and spend time with children, and was a staple in the Asbury School Community.
Evelyn’s caring nature was first bestowed on her own family, and she spent her time as a stay-at-home mother while her daughters were growing. When she became Mamaw, her only grandchild, Jerimie, became her whole world. She was a caring mother and a doting grandmother, as well as a loving sister and wonderful friend.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by: her husband of 54 years, James “Sam” Lamons, and her brother, John Kemp Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her children, Joan Hoilman and husband Johnny, and Nora Elizabeth Brooks; grandchild, Jerimie Brooks and wife Amber; special sister, Keeva Ann Humphreys and husband David; brother, David Stout; nieces, great nieces, and great-great nieces: Lori Ann Guinn, Jessica Smith, Kaylee Smith, Addison Smith; nephews and great nephews: Michael Guinn, Jason Guinn, Gary Kemp, Johnny Kemp, Kurt Kemp, Kevin Kemp, Dustin Humphreys and Joey Humphreys; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kemp; coffee buddy and good friend, Ron Kwiatkowski; and close friends and neighbors, Thelma and Carl Sneyd.
