Evelyne E. Bates

Evelyne E. Bates, 81, Johnson City, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019, at The Waters of Johnson City. Evelyne was born in Erwin to the late Richard and Lillian Edwards. Evelyne was a member of Keystone Free Will Baptist Church. She graduated from University of Tennessee with her associate degree. Evelyne later owned her own beauty salon and taught cosmetology at Johnson City Vocational from 1972-1979. In addition to her parents, Evelyne was preceded in death by: her husband, William L. Bates; four brothers, Richard G. Jr., Kenneth N., James W. and Phillip Buster Edwards; five sisters, Carmel E. Freeman, Leona E. Jackson, Fannie E. Garland, Vivian E. Brock and Beatrice E. Price. Survivors include: one sister, Wanda Padgett; several nieces and nephews; and many church and neighborhood friends. Special thank you to the staff at The Waters and Amedysis Hospice for the care they provided to Evelyne. The family of Evelyne Bates will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM Friday, February 1, 2019, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will follow immediately after at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry Stout officiating. Please meet at the cemetery by 2:10 PM. Honorary pallbearers include: nephews and church and neighborhood friends.
