Everett Gene Goodman

Mr. Everett 'Gene'? Goodman, age 81, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully August 12, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Goodman was a native of Ashe County North Carolina and son of the late Muriel and James Robert Goodman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goodman was preceded in death by one sister Vivian Crawford and one brother Edwin Goodman. Above all, Mr. Goodman was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 61 years Lucille and father to three children, James Goodman (Ruth), Carl Goodman (Robin), and Mary Southerland (Tony). He had 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Alex, Deanna, and Bill Goodman, Aaron (Missy), Benjamin (Paige), and James Southerland; along with one great-granddaughter Olivia Southerland. He also had one special friend (like a granddaughter), Jessica Gourley. He was also a caring brother to sisters Ruby Clark, Mary Dykes, Edna (Bobby) Crawford, Joyce (Gary) Trent and four brothers Charles (Hazel), Dale (Judith), Darrell (Cary), and Dallas (Tammy) Goodman. Mr. Goodman also has a stepmother Edith Goodman, many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Goodman was a Deacon and member of Clifton View Baptist Church. He worked at Klopman Mills for 50 years as a technician. He was an avid gardener, NASCAR fan, and loved playing with his faithful companion Princess. Mr. Goodmans family will be receiving family and friends Saturday, August 14 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Morris Baker Funeral Home. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Reverends Claude Babb, Dr. William Duncan, and Alan Stewart (nephew) officiating. Committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15 at Monte Vista. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons from the mens Sunday school class at Clifton View Baptist, friends from Klopman Mills, and Mr. Delmas Dugger. Pallbearers and friends should meet at Morris Baker by 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
