Frieda Arney, 88, of Johnson City passed peacefully into Heaven December 23, 2015 at the National Health Care Center in Johnson City. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Paul Arney, and daughter, Sonja Schmidt. Frieda Daiker Arney was born March 23, 1927 in Aichach, Germany and lived there throughout WWII. She married Paul Arney, of Johnson County, TN on August 19, 1948 in Bamberg, Germany while he was stationed there as part of the U.S. occupation forces. She had a great love for travel and she and Paul traveled the world together. When they left Germany, they lived in Ethiopia for several years while Paul was assigned to the Haile Selassie special forces group. After completing various assignments with the Army SFC, Paul and Frieda lived in Akron, Ohio and later resided in Johnson City. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen on March 5, 1952. Frieda and Paul were active members of Southside Baptist Church and donated the lighted cross on the church that can be seen from the hospital and all around that area as a beacon of Jesus? Light and Love. She had a love for animals and maintained a lily pond with beautiful flora and fish along with prolific vegetable and flower gardens. Frieda was loved by her friends and members of Southside Baptist Church and especially members of the Fidelis Sunday School class. She was loved by her family who enjoyed her wisdom. She had a cheerful laugh and a sunny smile and was always an interesting conversationalist with a firm disposition that remained strong and steadfast no matter of the circumstances. She was a cancer survivor and is remembered by many nieces and nephews each who had a special, endearing relationship with her. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of National Health Care for the loving care provided to Frieda while she was there. Isaiah 58:8 Your light shall spring forth like the dawn. Your healing and power of a new life shall spring forth speedily. Your righteousness with God shall conduct you to peace and prosperity. And the Glory of the Lord shall gather you.
