Garrick Daniel Swartz, age 41, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his residence. Garrick was born on April 20, 1982, in Greeneville, Tennessee, the son of Gary and Eva Wallace Swartz.
Garrick was known for two things…being able to cook and a man who passionately loved the Tennessee Vols. His latter career was being a skilled restaurant cook at BURGr’ & BARREL. He said that, “he was built to work there” and even when they were “busy getting their heads kicked in, he loved it.” In case you didn’t know, Garrick’s blood ran orange. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan and loved cheering them on every Saturday during football season. Many times, he said, GO BIG ORANGE! We can still hear him saying that now.
Garrick loved being a father, a son and a friend. Nothing meant more to him than his son, Daniel. He called him his Mini-Me and would spend hours watching Star Wars, building with Legos or playing video games. Garrick’s ability to be an unconditional friend was amazing. He kept a smile on his face, even if times were hard. Garrick was eager to help his family or friends in need and would defend them in an instant. He sure could make you laugh.
Those left to cherish and remember Garrick include his son, Daniel; special family, Ronnie and Debi Posadas; his father, Gary Swartz (Valerie), his mother, Eva “Candy” Ferris (Wayne); his sister, Meghan Swartz-Evans (Rob); a step-brother, Matthew Whitson (Teresa); a step-sister, Sarah Whitson; two nephews, Joseph and Aaron; one niece, Cameron; three aunts, Patricia Laws (Chet); Karen Hawkins (Chris); and Susie Wallace; and a number of cousins that loved him dearly, especially Toria Hale.
A celebration of Garrick’s life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 PM at Morris-Baker Funeral Home of Johnson City. Those wishing to leave words of comfort or share a memory with the family can send them to: garrick.swartz.memorial@gmail.com
