Gary Monroe Davenport

Gary Monroe Davenport, 57 of Johnson City died Friday, May 9, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Johnson City, the son of the late James M. and Leota Hale Davenport. Gary had a deep belief in God and the scriptures and attended Southside Freewill Baptist Church. He was a former professional wrestler and dirt track driver. He loved fishing and the outdoors but his first love was his Harley. Gary served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of both the VFW and the Moose Club. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to Adventa Hospice Services in Elizabethton for their compassion and caring of Gary in his last weeks, the doctors and staff of Cancer Outreach and the nurses on 4200 of JCMC. Survivors include his wife, Sharon M. Davenport; two daughters, Michelle L. Harvey of Johnson City and Shannon M. Bertolino of Connecticut; two uncles, James R. Hale of Sulphur Springs and Gerald A. Hale of Johnson City; two aunts, Viola V. Wall of Orlando, FL and Ruby Filmen of Greeneville; two grandchildren, Ashley and Caitlin Bertolino; several cousins. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Reverend Steve Burleson. The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tri Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the gravesite by 10:45 a.m.
