George English Oldham, Iv

George English Oldham IV, 47, passed away unexpectedly in Nashville, TN, August 19, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Haskins Oldham, son, Patrick M. Oldham and daughter, Anna K. Oldham, of Brentwood, TN; his parents Claire T. and George E. “Skip” Oldham III of Johnson City, TN; sisters, Julia O. Vargo and spouse Steven T. and Patricia C. Oldham and spouse Walter E. Hopkins, of Johnson City. Surviving family also includes nieces and nephews, Charles D. Vargo, Bennett O. Vargo, Jackson T. Vargo, Julia-Claire O. Hopkins, and Sarah-Katharine O. Hopkins; and Aunt Katharine “Kitty” Oldham Young of Greeneville, South Carolina, and cousin Katharine Y. Martin and spouse John M. “Tripp” Martin and their children John David and Hunter J. of Auburn, AL. He was preceded in death by grandparents Doris B. and Jackson Trethaway of Kingston, PA, and Anna Katharine L. and George E. Oldham, Jr. of Johnson City, TN, and uncles Jackson Trethaway, Jr. and Marion J. Young.
Mr. Oldham graduated with honors from Science Hill High School, Johnson City, and received a B.S. in Economics from Miami University, Oxford, OH, where he was a brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Ohio Tau. Mr. Oldham also was a recipient of the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow award. Early in his career, he launched his passion for sales by working in the insurance industry in St. Louis. Yet, he discovered his enthusiasm for medical-related sales with Polymedco, which coupled with his interest in cutting edge technologies and medical advances. George returned to his home state of Tennessee with Neurometrix and then moved to Intuitive Surgical where he became highly skilled in clinical sales and training. Most recently, he had joined the NeoTract consulting team in Nashville. Cultivating longstanding relationships with colleagues, physicians, surgical professionals, and many others in the hospital and medical fields, he was considered a staple in the Nashville medical device community.
George committed fully and deeply to whatever he did; seeking personal excellence and always challenging himself and coaching others toward their best. He swiftly achieved the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout by his sophomore year in high school. He perfected his German to fluency during his time spent with family friends in Berlin. Friendships were considered a commitment kept. Yet, his role of husband and father was his most important accomplishment and deepest passion, as he planned memorable family trips, cheered on his children at lacrosse and football games, and created family traditions with Colleen that will last generations.
A service celebrating George’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church, (105 South Boone Street, Johnson City, TN) under the direction of The Rev. Paul Helphinstine.
