George Washington Perkey, 85, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Cornerstone Village. He was a native of Piney Flats and the son of James and Annie Pritchett Perkey. George was a beloved husband and father of five. He was well known for his outstanding passion for living Gods word. George made his career working in forestry, eventually moving up to the position of journeyman in the field. He was a tree surgeon in the city of Jamestown, New York, before retiring and going to work for the Johnson City school system. The entire community knew him for his services and often called upon him for his tree expertise. George was a hardworking man up to and beyond his retirement. Music followed George wherever he went, and he could play any instrument you set in front of him. He loved the guitar, singing and playing lead in a band during his leisure time. He also used his musical talents to celebrate the Lord, singing with his wife and children at First Church of the Open Bible in Jamestown, New York. His passion for the Lord was great, and he achieved the role of deacon at First Church of the Open Bible as well as the Church of God in Johnson City. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: one daughter, Kim Marie Fink; one sister, Ethel Horton; three brothers, Paul, Junior, and Henry Perkey; one granddaughter, Jennifer Yates; and one great-grandson, Kia Copas. Survivors include: his wife of sixty-two years, Eleanor Walls Perkey; four daughters, Debra Hicks, Eleanor 'Cis' Nelson, Barbara Dykes, and Teresa Copas; numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Cornerstone Village for the time and care they gave to George. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Fellowship Bible Church, 501 West Highland Road, Johnson City, Tennessee 37601. The family of George Perkey will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Monday, April 2, 2018 at Christ Fellowship Bible Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chad Hooks officiating and Pastor Richard Bawgus of the Tri-Cities Church of God speaking as well. A committal service will follow Fairview Cemetery, 878 TN-81, Jonesborough, TN 37659. Pallbearers will be Georges grandsons, Jason Thompson, Carmen Perry, Aaron Perry, Jonathan Hicks, Matthew Fink, Jordan Copas, and Ricky Hicks.
