Glenn A. Dr. Terry

Dr. Glenn A. Terry, 95, Gray, TN, died on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at NCH Healthcare after a brief illness. He will be remembered and deeply missed by all those he has touched by sharing his knowledge, mentoring, educating and loving. Glenn was the son of the late Claude and Loretta Terry, Carbondale, IL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: the love of his life, Evelyn Jean Terry; and his only brother, Patrick Terry, Murphysboro, IL. Those left to cherish his memory include: his only son, Stephen A. Terry and wife Kim, Gray, TN; granddaughter, Nina Sollitto and husband Pete, Rochester, NY. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Johnson City, TN. Glenn proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a WWII Navy Torpedo Bomber Pilot aboard the USS Makin Island. After serving in the military, he went on to attend Southern Illinois University, where he received his B.S. degree in Chemistry. He achieved his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. Glenn?s career spanned form Mallinckodt Chemicals, St. Louis, MO, Spencer/Gulf, Kansas City, MO and Nuclear Fuel Services, Erwin, TN. He Retired from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington D.C. After retirement, he worked with Whites Hardware, Olney, MD and Ace Hardware, Johnson City, until the age of 91. During his career, he obtained six patents and three publications. He held memberships in the American Chemical Society, American Nuclear Society, American Legion, VFW and Elks. Glenn was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, whitewater canoeing, fly tying, reloading, bird watching along with gardening and landscaping. He also pursued cooking, preferably outdoors, woodcarving and wood crafting. He continued his passion for gardening, cooking and crossword puzzles into his later years. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Murdale Gardens of Memory, 137 Murdale Gardens Road, Murphysboro, IL 62966. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Catholic Church, 2211 E. Lakeview Dr., Johnson City, TN 37601.
