Glessie P. Church, 80, Johnson City, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Church was a native of Yancey County, NC and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Hobart and Letha Edwards Pate. Mrs. Church was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Church and one daughter, Brenda Church Stuart. She was retired from Texas Instruments. Mrs. Church was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Ralph Church, Fenton, MO; one daughter, Debbie Oliver, Gray; five grandchildren, Todd Church, Lisa Mclain, Bryan Oliver, Zachary Church and Ellede E. Church; four great grandchildren, Brittany Church, Emily Church, Kassie Church, and Garrett Mclain; one brother, Bud Pate, Johnson City and one sister, Thelma Smith, Johnson City. A funeral service for Mrs. Church will be conducted at 7 pm Saturday, December 20, 2008 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend George Higgins and Reverend Lenny Smith will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 pm and travel in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Phillips, Richard Church, David Church, Darrell Church, Wayne McKeehan and Steve Pate. Bill Kirkland will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Debbie Oliver.
