Grady Clark Walker

I Corinthians 2:9-10 No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. Grady Clark Walker, 83, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City and the son of the late Joe R. Walker and Wilma Walker. Grady graduated from Boones Creek High School in 1953 where he discovered a genuine love for football and became the quarterback for his team under the leadership of his coach, Jack Seaton. While in high school, he had the privilege of attending the University of Tennessee football games with his coach, and for many years he enjoyed home games as long as his health permitted. Grady proudly served in the US Army as a Military Police officer. He was stationed in Korea in 1954-1955. He also loved to play golf with his golfing buddies who became lifelong friends. They love to travel in East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia to enjoy God?s great outdoors, playing a round of golf and later eating a nice meal together. Grady was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed his area of service working in the kitchen helping to prepare wonderful dinners for many groups in the community and the church family. He also loved preparing for and celebrating special occasions and holiday meals in his home for his family and friends. He was a Mason and a member of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel Walker and Joe Walker, Jr.; and sisters, Georgia Coulter and Josephine Good. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Betty; daughter, Shannon Parrish; granddaughter, Anna Parrish; and brother, Carl Walker. His family brought so much joy into his life, especially his granddaughter, Anna. His family could not have asked for a better husband, father, and grandfather. Grady will be fondly remembered as a master gardener, working hard to have a large garden and share a bountiful harvest with family, neighbors, and friends. He also loved beautiful flowers during spring and summer, especially his ferns and geraniums, and faithfully cared for them. He presented his wife, daughter, and granddaughter a red poinsettia the each year on the night after Thanksgiving to be enjoyed into the new year. Grady was deeply loved and was a loving person who will be greatly missed. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the 5400 wing of JCMC nurses Heather and Karen, and the numerous CNAs that provided loving and compassionate care for Grady. The family of Grady Clark Walker will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm Tuesday under the direction of Rev. Gerald Casson and Rev. Ken Lytton. A committal service is scheduled for 11 am Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 10:30 am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
