Harlow D. McKinney, 80, of 1825 W. Lakeview Drive, died Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Appalachian Christian Village following an illness. A native of Jackson County, Kentucky, son of the late Roy L. and Edith Young McKinney. He was a retired employee of the Holston Defense and a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Navy and was on the USS Tate. Mr. McKinney resided in the Gray area for the last 56 years. He was a member of the Boones Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Mack, Thomas and James McKinney and three sisters, Evie and Ruth McKinney and Mildred Mayne. Survivors include his wife, Anna Ruth McKinney of the home, two sons, Mike (& Shirley) McKinney of Chucky and Joel (& Sandra) McKinney of Johnson City; a brother, Charles (& Wathena) McKinney of Richmond, KY; two sisters, Virginia (& M. A.) Slusher of Berea, KY and Mabel McKinney also of Berea, KY; three grandsons, Jamey, Dennis (& Denise) and Josh McKinney of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Kelley McKinney of Columbus, Ohio and Sarah McKinney of Johnson City; two great granddaughters, Emily and Reilly McKinney of Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, September 16, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. in the Washington County Memory Gardens, under the direction of Rev. David Tydings. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. and then go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
