2nd Timothy 7: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Harry Hyder Shoun, 86, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 10. He was a native of Johnson City, Tenn. Mr. Shoun was the son of the late Robert Stacy and Anna Lee Shoun. He was the youngest of three children. Mr. Shoun retired from Sprint Telephone Company after 31 years of service where he was a charter member of the Communication Workers of America. He was a Korean War veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy. N\r. Shoun was on active member of University Parkway Baptist Church for 59 years until health problems prevented his regular attendance over the past six years. He was a member and assistant teacher of the Senior Mens Sunday School class. He also served as a deacon and chairman of deacons, usher, trustee, custodian, under-shepherd, and a member of other various committees. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shoun was preceded in death by his brother, Chauncey 'Bud' Shoun, and his sister Stacy Lee Shoun. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dema G. Shoun; sons, Dean Shoun and wife Debby (Kingsport); David Shoun (Johnson City); and one daughter, Menessia Shoun (Johnson City). Mr. Shoun had seven grandchildren: Chelsea Adams and husband Nick (Kingsport); Jared Shoun, Michael Shoun, Calissta Sparks, Joshua Strother, Brandon Shoun, and Alyssa Shoun (all of Johnson City), five great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Shoun (Elizabethton), Scarlet Josie Sparks and Hunter Shoun (both of Johnson City), Harper and Ellie Adams (Kingsport), and a special friend, Michelle Burelle, who always made him laugh. Our dad was a quiet, gentle man who loved the Lord and served Him well. He adored his family and his church family. He was loved by everyone, and he will be greatly missed. We love you daddy! The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 followed by the funeral service at 8 p.m. at Morris Baker Funeral Home. Dr. Michael Oaks and Rev. Scott Thompson will officiate the service, and music will be provided by Gil Moody and Kathy Thompson. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those attending the graveside service should meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Shoun, Jared Shoun, Michael Shoun, Joshua Strother, Brandon Shoun, and Dale Strother. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Mens Sunday School class from University Parkway Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Caris Hospice for providing compassion and kindness in Mr. Shouns final days.
