Hazel Esther Miller

June 26, 1921 — August 24, 2014

Hazel Esther Holtzclaw Miller, 93, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 in Appalachian Christian Village. Hazel was an Avery County, NC native who had lived in Johnson City since she was a child. She was a daughter of the late Lindsay Holtzclaw and Bessie Shepherd Holtzclaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles Miller; two sons, Archie and Bill Miller; two sisters, Myrtle Lee Riddle and Mamie Austin; one grandson; and two great grandchildren. Hazel was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. She is survived by: four children, Clyde Miller, Steve Miller (Becky), Elizabeth Miller (Scotty Casey), and Kathy Thornton (Jerry); daughter-in-law, Juanita Miller; 19 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews. The family of Hazel Miller will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A committal service is scheduled for 1 pm Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Washington County Memory Gardens. Rev. Mike Pelham will officiate. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 12:15 pm Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery, or meet at the cemetery by 1 pm for services.
