Hazel W. Staten, 86, of Johnson City, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong Washington County resident. She was a daughter of the late J.W. and Belva Cloyd Woodruff. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Leigh Staten and Rachael Ann Staten; three sisters, Mrs. (Dewey) Looper, Mrs. Leona (Ray) Hobbs and Mrs. Margaret (Phil) Narusewicz; two brothers, J.W. Woodruff Jr. and H.V. Woodruff. She was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Mackie of Kingsport; one granddaughter, Mrs. Angela (Mark) Ogilvie, Kingsport; one grandson, Kevin Mackie, Knoxville; two brothers, Dee Woodruff, Lenoir, NC, and Carl Woodruff of Johnson City; brother-in-law, Mr. Phil Narusewicz, Princeton, NJ; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Betty (Bill) Staten and Mrs. Jackie (Lester) Staten; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Staten, Laurel, MD; several nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to Charles Cole, M.D., and staff of Pulmonary Associates, Rodney Houghton, M.D., and staff of Frontier Health, Leslie Johnson of Pro-Care and Leslie Pritchard of Amedisys, members of the Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday from the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Mike Tyson will officiate. Burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:45 until 1:45 PM Tuesday. They will also receive friends at 1210 E. Myrtle at any time.
