Helen Apperson Rouse, 95 passed away January 10, 2007 at her home of 17 years Colonial Hills Retirement Center. 'Little Helen' as she was Known as a child, was the youngest of four daughters born to William C Apperson and Nancy Elizabeth Franklin 'Bessie' Apperson. Helen was born July 10, 1911 and grew up in the St. Elmo section of Chattanooga. She graduated from Central High School and attended the Univerity of Chattanooga. She married Robert N.Rouse September 30, 1939. They moved to Singal Mountain, Tn. and had one son Robert N. Rouse, Jr. During this period of her life Helen was a wife, homemaker, mother and Den mother for the Cub Scouts. She volunteered with the Red Cross and was an active member of the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. Her husband of 36 years passed away in 1976.Helen moved to Johnson City in 1989 and became active in the Johnson City Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy , East Tennessee Society Southern Dames of America and the Monday Club. She attended Munsey United Methodist Church with friends from the retirement center. As her eye sight dimmed and old age took hold she started attending Sunday school at the center. As she required more help with daily living the staff at the center became her extended family. They provided friendship as well as excellent care . She loved to pass the time just sitting and talking. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert N. Rouse, her three sisters, Lois Morgan, Mildred Overbey and Elizabeth Erd and one infant brother William Franklin Apperson. She is survived by her son Robert N. Rouse, Jr. and daughter-in-law Morrelle Rouse and grandson Thomas S. Boswell. Also many nieces and nephews and their families also survive. Helen as she was known by her family and friends or 'Miss Helen' by the younger generation will be missed by all. The funeral service for Helen Apperson Rouse will be conducted at 3 PM Sunday, January 14, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Bob Edmonds will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 3 PM Monday in the Forest Hills Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tn. Rev. Sherry Boles will officiate the graveside service. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 1 to 3 PM Sunday prior to the service.
