Mrs. Helen Caroline Clay, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away, Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Clay was a native of Clintwood, Virginia and was born in Coeburn, Virginia the daughter of the late Conley Harvey and Nellie Hicks Harvey. Mrs. Clay was a homemaker, a former member of Clintwood Bible Church and was a current member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. She had been a member of the Clintwood Eastern Star Chapter No 144 for more than 50 years. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leonard Clay, Jr; and one son, Larry Clay Survivors include: one son, Randy Clay and wife Ellie of Johnson City; one daughter, Kathy Rowland and husband Gene of Big Stone Gap, VA; seven grandchildren, Nick Clay, Bradley Clay, Chad Rowland, Amber Mullins, Lori Beth Sikora, Gabriel Clay and Joseph Clay; and seven great grandchildren. The funeral service for Mrs. Helen Caroline Clay will be conducted at 8 PM Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. Everyone attending the committal service is requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Wednesday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday prior to the service. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of the Wellington Place, NHC of Johnson City and to a special friend and hairdresser of Mrs. Clays, Virginia White. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the ALS Foundation, 214 Commerce Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
