Helen Carrie Hoover

January 19, 1924 — February 24, 2011

Helen Carrie Hoover, age 87, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Hoover was born in Bristol, Virginia, a daughter of the late Harper W. Pippin and Lucy Virginia Leonard Pippin. She and her husband J.D. were lifelong residents of Bristol, Virginia, prior to moving to Johnson City in 1955. She and her husband J.D. joined Unaka Avenue Baptist Church in 1955. Mrs. Hoover served as a Kindergarten Teacher and served with the youth at Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. She worked in retail sales prior to her retirement. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hoover was preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Hoover, and three sisters, Hazel Hamm, Clydia Barr, and Pearl Carrier. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, J.D. Hoover; two sons, David D. Hoover and wife Sharon, of Kingsport, TN, and Daniel L. Hoover and wife Judy, of Piney Flats, TN; four grandchildren, Diane Bradley and husband Hunter, Don Hoover, Jonathan Hoover and wife Jennifer, Melissa Calhoun and husband Michael; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 28, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Mitchell and Rev. Mike Tyson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday morning, March 1, 2011 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Hoover, Hunter Bradley, Tyler Bradley, Tanner Bradley, Webb Schwartz, Mark Young, Buford Stone, and Richard Barr. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Cloyd and Matthew Plaskie. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:40 am Tuesday morning. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Caris Healthcare, and Jane Luethke of ALS Support Community. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Unaka Avenue Baptist Church, 1213 E. Unaka Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
