Helen Lawson Hollinger passed away August 16, 2009, in Christian Care Center of Johnson City after an extended illness. Helen was born in the Austin Springs community and was the daughter of the late Willard and Ethel Smith Lawson. She resided in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and had moved back to this area in 1991. She attended Austin Springs United Methodist Church and had been a member since childhood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Donna Jean, Donald and Little Kenny; one grandchild, Kelly, a sister, Margaret Carver, brother, James William and husband, George Hollinger. Helen is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pott and son-in-law, Jim of Dunnellon, FL; sisters, Alice Merritt and Dorothy Archer of Johnson City, and Betty Greene of Bristol, TN, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Helen was an exceptional writer of poetry and songs, some of which have been published. She and her brother James played guitar and sang on WOPI radio station in Bristol when they were young. She was and accomplished seamstress and enjoyed spending time in her beautiful flower garden. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 pm Wednesday, August 19, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Minister Jerry Fleenor officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 am at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:00 am and travel in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Austin Springs United Methodist Church, 726 Austin Springs Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
