Helen M. Tolley

Rev. Helen Marshall Tolley, 72, of 900 North Street, Johnson City went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Johnson City, daughter of the late Myral and Ruby Barnes Marshall. Sister Tolley had an evangelistic ministry, that spanned many state and churches. She served as assistant pastor at North Street Church of Jesus Christ for four years and then assumed the role of pastor for twenty eight years. During this time she had fellowship and worshipped with several churches and ministers; Pastor George Hall of the Church of Jesus, Pastor David Nunley at the Gospel Light Tabernacle, Elder Aaron Redd at Grace Temple and Evangelist Pauletta Logan, Ypsilanti, MI. She held many revivals with her sisters, Evangelists Emma Clark and Mary Deal. She was always ministering no matter where you met her. Due to her debilitating condition she prayed and ministered from her bedside where she would share the saving grace of Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Evangelist Emma Clark and her brother, Eugene Marshall. Survivors include: her husband, A. Z. 'Bud'? Tolley of the home; a son, A. Z. Tolley, Jr. and his wife Denise Tolley of Johnson City; a daughter, Debi Posadas '' Peters and her husband Ronnie Peters of Johnson City; two brothers, Johnny Woodby of Dry Creek and Ronnie Woodby of Stoney Creek; two sisters, Evangelist Mary Deal and Wanda Riddle both of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Shaunda Posadas, Heather Tolley and Renee Tolley; four great grandchildren, Tristan Peters, Athena Bradley, Hunter Peters and Keller Clark; several nieces and nephews. She had a niece and nephew who shared her birthday and were very special to her heart, Jennifer Buck and Danny Joe Woodby. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the North Street Church of Jesus Christ, under the direction of Rev. Wayne Pruitt and Evangelist Mary Deal. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the church. A committal service will be conducted following the funeral at the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be: Robert Mitchell, Danny Joe Woodby, Johnny Woodby, Henry Riddle, Mark Deal, Michael Tolley, Myral Clark and Lonnie Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be: Marshall Clark, Terry Scalf and Mark Scalf. The family would like to express thanks to: her loving husband who provided for her every need. Sister Tolley had a loving sister-in-law, Linda Light who cared for her on a daily basis, they shared together special times and fellowship. The Johnson City Medical Center 7500 unit and special thanks to Kevin.
