Helen M. VanHoy, 84, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Johnson City Medical Center. Helen was born on January 28, 1934, to the late William Lincoln and Ruby Gregg Miller. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County. Helen was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. For 30 years, Helen was an adjustment officer for SunTrust Bank. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by: her loving husband of 48 years, Ray E. VanHoy, Jr.; three brothers, Harry Miller, Carl Miller and Lonnie Miller; three sisters, Opal Powell, Naomi Miller and Evelyn Blevins; and a daughter-in-law, Teresa VanHoy. Survivors include: one son, James Scott VanHoy; four grandchildren, Amanda Rae VanHoy, Elizabeth Marie Phillips, James Scott VanHoy, Jr. and Brandon Michael Phillips; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Chola Ford and Lena Ball; and friend/caretaker, Abbie Ferguson. The family of Helen VanHoy will receive friends from 12 PM until 2 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2018. The funeral will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Roy Yelton officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at Monte Vista Memorial Park for a 3 PM committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, 2823 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601.
