Mrs. Helen McCrary Blocker, 87, 3209 Bristol Hwy, Johnson City passed away Sunday September 6, 2009 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Blocker was a native of Bristol, Virginia and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Fannie Hobbs McCrary. In addition to her parents her husband, Dan Blocker, Jr. and a sister, Frances McCrary Robinson also preceded her in death. She was a graduate of King College in Bristol and attended The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was a long time teacher in the Johnson City school system and was of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include: two sons, James W. Blocker and his wife Lola of Johnson City and John D. Blocker and his wife Renee of Manlius, New York; one brother, John W. McCrary of Rochester, New York; two grandchildren, Brittany B. Thomas and her husband Michael of Johnson City and Suzanne Michelle Blocker of Mooresville, North Carolina; two great grandson, Braylon and Briggs Thomas. The funeral service for Mrs. Helen McCrary Blocker will be conducted at 7 PM Wednesday September 9, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Harold McNabb will officiate. The committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Thursday in the Mountain View Cemetery Bristol, Virginia. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 9:55 AM Thursday. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday prior to the service. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
